Pacquiao Relinquish His WBC Super Welterweight Title

Filipino number one pound for pound fighter, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao announced that he will give up his WBC (World Boxing Council) super welterweight title which he won against Mexican boxer, Antonio Margarito last year. This is after his camp revealed that he will not fight heavier than the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.

They have learned from their lesson from the previous fight where he got hurt and believe that the Filipino boxer’s life was put at risk. Imagine, on his previous fight, Margarito was 17 pounds higher than Pacquiao making the match very dangerous. However, the “Pacman” defeated the much bigger and heavier Mexican fighter by unanimous decision but he was felt the bad bruises he got in the process.

Koncz said to Boxingscene.com that “We learned from experience in the Margarito fight that giving away 10 to 15 pounds during fight night is very detrimental to the safety of Manny. Because of those basic concerns, we have no intention for Manny to fight at 154. From this day forward the maximum weight would be 147 lb (welterweight).”

Even he lost the super welterweight crown at least we all know that our idol Manny Pacquiao will be safe on his future fights and we fans are expecting a much exciting match on the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Mosley on May 7. I hope Mosley trains well and could keep up to give us the entertainment that we need.
